Hyaluronic acid

Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural polymer belonging to the glycosaminoglycan family. It consists of repeating units of N-acetylglucosamine and glucuronic acid. The repetition of this basic unit can lead to polymers ranging from 5,000 to 20,000,000Da.

Hyaluronic acid is naturally synthesized and broken down by a large number of organisms, including humans. A person weighing 70kg will have around 15g of HA in joints, skin, eyes, and other organs and tissues. Of this 15g, around 5g is renewed every day.

This wide variety of sizes and their physical and chemical characteristics give HA a large number of properties.
